Answers
1. Who is responsible for the contents of this site? Responsibility lies with the European consortium towards appropriate drug
donations of non-governmental organizations (NGO 's) consisting of DIFÄM (Germany), ReMed (France), Prosalus (Spain) and Wemos (the Netherlands). The Wemos Foundation coordinates this consortium and is directly responsible for the construction of this site.
The NGO
consortium has a development education project that addresses the issue of drug donations from the European Community to developing countries and countries in
transition. The overall aim of the project is to raise awareness for the need to improve the quality of drug donations.
This website is co-financed by the European Commission (DG Development), the Dutch Ministry of Health and Netherlands Development Assistance(NeDA) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
2. Why has this site been developed? This website is developed to support national awareness raising and advocacy campaigns of the
members of the NGO consortium on appropriate drug donations (see question 1) and other organizations working to improve the quality of donations.
These
campaigns address the issue of quality and drug donations. Problems with drug donations in the past years and the publication of the inter-agencyguidelines
for drug donations by the WHO in 1996 justify widespread information on appropriate donation practices.

4. What kind of information can be found on this site? First of all you can find guidelines on this site. Guidelines for drug donations and for medical equipment donations. Endorsement and application of these guidelines will stimulate better and more appropriate drug donations. The NGO consortium on appropriate drug donations, responsible for this site, advocates the implementation of these guidelines.
Besides guidelines you will find a checklist forgood drug donation practices. This checklist is constructed accord with
the inter-agency guidelines and is provided as a practical tool for organizations that want to professionalize their donation practices. Information provided
under the headingawareness raising and advocacy will assist organizations and persons that want to initiate education activities in their communities.
